cairNs~ (say.. kents)

left goldcoast for cairns.. just abt time.. it was getting colder.. or maybe it was just a bloody cold morning.. when we reached cairns it was the total opp.. it was so warm.. was kinda stranded at the airport momentarily because we hadnt planned for any transfer to Trinity Beach Club Holiday Apartments.. hoping to catch a public bus but there wasnt any at the airport.. in the end, settled for a cab which was cost each of us ard.. 13? ok lah.. at least better than the 18 or 20 which the accomodation offered..the place looks great.. its very spacious.. 2 storey somemore.. not bad.. just that it freaked me out a little when she said that there were a couple of burglury cases in the past months..

after settling down our luggages, we headed out to the city but the bus system is so complicated lah.. like.. bus 2A was supposed to send us to the city but when it came, the bus driver said that the other bus2A brings us.. not that one.. omg.. when we eventually reached the city, we walked ard abit.. there were so many souveneir shops lo.. it's such a touristy area.. walked thru the Cairns night market but was quite disappointed.. its so small.. and there isnt much to see.. most of the gifts and handicrafts are quite common.. managed to buy a set of figurines which was quite nice.. so not too bad..

nice? im a sucker for figurines~

2nd time during this trip that we woke extremely early.. that's 2days in a row now! went on a bus towards the jetty to leave for Frankland islands to do snorkelling at the great barrier reef! how cool! the day would be so great.. getting to see lots of fishes and corals.. so excited about getting great pics too with the underwater sleeve that i bought for my camera. the bus ride was longer than expected.. wasted about 2hrs on it..

i didnt know clouds could look this fake!

then had to transfer to a speedboat which took us to our destination.. the ride was so bumpy! but that wasnt the worst.. because the water was quite choppy.. we had our faces splashed with water. first part of the ride still not so bad.. cuz the splashing came from the other side of the boat from where we were sitting.. only i kenna.. but when going back.. we got it flat on.. even had to use our towels to cover ourselves to prevent us from getting all drenched again..

island where we snorkelled at~

the snorkelling was so-so only too.. the water wasnt as clear as i thought it would be.. plus the corals arent that pretty too.. some look quite ugly actually.. haha.. but i saw many pretty fishes.. got 1 rainbow colour de.. very nice.. the feeling of swimming beside fishes.. is so great! its abit.. scary? but mostly just great.. and i got to see a tortise! oh my~ i was so excited when i saw it.. it has this mystical feel to it.. i feel so privileged to see it.. although it swam really slow.. i lost sight of it after sticking my head out of the water to see how far out i have swam to..

hey there!

managed to see an eel too.. at least that's what i think.. haha.. well.. it should be.. it's long long de.. ok.. not exactly long.. but its thin and stretches horizontal.. it's silvery too.. it looks kinda scary actually.. so tho i was fascinated by it, i kept some distance..

love my sleeve for underwater phototaking!

i have always loved the sea~ that i know.. but that was when i see it from above.. i have no idea i would fall in love with the ocean beneath the surface.. the ocean life below is so intriguing.. beautiful fishes and creatures but dangerous ones as well.. i would really love to do diving and see more but then again im afraid of the sharks and jelly fishes.. jelly fish looks cool but they r dangerous.. so.. yeah.. that only thing abt today is that i didnt get to see any nemo (clown fish).. i search and scrutinise each n every coral reef i see very carefully but no sign of it.. 残念です~

beautiful sugarcane fields~

the next day, originally only wanted to visit Tjapukai Aboriginal village, but included the scenic railway to kuranda and the cable way away from it.. it was kind of a waste of money? cuz paying money to sit on train n cable car only.. nothing much.. but the scenary was not bad lah.. on the way from the train, we passed the barron falls and dam but there wasnt much rain in the past week so the falls arent as spectacular as usual..

too bad it isnt the steaming scarlet train~

the view from the sky rail was better.. but i've seen lots of this kind of view le.. mountains and forest and rivers.. but beautiful scenery, 看多了也无妨..

3 ambassadors~

hehe.. walked ard kuranda village in between the two rides.. it was a relatively huge place and with the 1.5hrs that we only had.. it wasnt enough at all.. just strolled around, buy lunch.. buy abit of souveneir.. oh.. bought mango flavoured wine for leona's family too! cuz she mentioned that her dad likes wine.. although she keeps nagging that we need not buy, we were still determined to get at least something. it's because we (at least i know that i do) cherish her as a friend and want to leave a good impression with her family.. dont want them to think that she made some friends who dont have manners.. hmm.. but her dad 好像 like those authentic red/white wine de wor.. fruit flavoured he may not like.. well.. just hope he likes it lor.. =)

figurines made of sea-shells~ so cute!

i had to force myself not to buy! which i kinda regret now.. =(

reached tjapukai slightly after 2pm.. saw many performances.. i thought the talk on the food, fruits and plants were very educational.. its like.. wow.. if i knew all those stuff she said, i wont have any problems living in the forest..

threw spears and boomerang too.. i also thought boomerang is very difficult to master cuz i havent seen any1 threw 1 before.. but i guess it isnt that difficult because alot of pple 1st time throw all can return de.. altho only one came back far enough to the thrower's hand.. mine? haha.. i'll rather not talk abt it..on hindsight, though the scenic railway and skyway was pretty 奢侈, lucky we did it cuz the aboriginal village was quite small..

nice~
looking good~
o god! what have i done to you~ why me~~~~

rented a car today cuz wanted to go to a coffee place.. not cafe coffee.. its like a museum? plus factory? yeah.. something lydat.. didnt do bungee cuz it was too expensive.. abit bo hua lah.. anyway.. got the car and its manual! damn.. ever since i got my license, i have never ever laid hands on a manual car.. so naturally, the beginning was pretty jerky.. cuz rusty mah.. but when i got the hang of it.. it was kinda fun u know.. the shifting of gears feels quite cool..

it's prob too small to be seen here, but the carplate has "Queensland - The Smart State" written on it. neat!

haha.. just that we had to pass by some really winding roads on the way.. it was left right left right up the mountain.. its terrible! that's the thing with manual cars.. keep having to change gears is sick! in the end, i stuck to gear3 all the way thru the winding road lo..

see the winding road? its not even an actual representation! there's more turns than that!

coffee works!

it was quite a nice place after all.. the museum is quite interactive.. there's explanation on the boards telling of the history of coffee and coffee making.. there's even a remote control where u can press a specific number to listen to explainations regarding that item.. they have pretty interesting commentary and exhibitions too.. there's one that features coffee around the world like World cup lydat.. pitting nations against each other in terms of coffee standards..

and i always thought all coffeebeans were brown!

but the best thing was the tasting area.. yeap, there are many different types of coffee to be tasted.. and 4 kinds of tea.. but we werent any coffee experts.. so we went for the chocolates instead.. haha.. there were quite some variety of chocolates.. got chili somemore.. quite unique.. tho not that nice, but still definitely worth a try! =p

jennifer would go mad here!
unsurprisingly hogging the choco queue~
